Corporate design manual · School project · 2025
A fictional company that needed a real rulebook. We could choose between a wildlife company and Bluesea. I chose the sea, which I've been close to my whole life. From there I built the corporate design from scratch: the logo, typography, colours, a visual element, and the rules that hold it all together, tested on real formats.

Key Decisions
A wave in the mark
The logo pairs the wordmark with a wave as its picture mark, and the two never appear apart. The rules are specific: the "e" in the wordmark defines the protective zone, the logo is always one grid column wide, and it always sits bottom right. Three variants (colour, black and negative) cover every background.

Rules you can measure
The manual doesn't say "use a large heading." It gives numbers. Type sizes are set for A5 and scale by fixed steps for A4 and A3. The special title font is always ten times the body size. Every page sits on a 6×9 grid with a margin of 5% of the page width and a 6.069 pt baseline grid. Anyone can pick up the manual and get the same result.
A pattern with limits
The visual element traces the honeycomb of light and shadow that sunlight draws on a shallow seabed. It's meant to decorate, never to dominate, so it gets strict rules: primary colours only, never repeated as a tile, ideally bleeding off the edge, free to rotate or mirror but never to distort.

Outcome
Tested on a membership card and an envelope at full size, to prove the rules work outside the manual. It's the project where I learned that a brand is less about the logo and more about the rules around it.
